A Proclamation on National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week, 2024
WASHINGTON -- Every member of the National Guard and Reserve forms a link in the chain of honor that stretches back far before our Nation’s founding. Throughout the centuries, these extraordinary citizens have committed themselves to a life of service and sacrifice for the United States. During National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week, we show gratitude for the members of our National Guard and Reserve, who protect, defend, and serve our Nation. And we thank their patriotic civilian employers, who go above and beyond to support their mission.
RICHLAND, Wash. – Slade Smith, superintendent at Bergelectric, was presented with an ESGR Patriot Award, by Judy West, east central area chair for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of extraordinary support of his employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

Fifteen Exceptional Employers Recognized for Top Honor
WASHINGTON – The Department of Defense is pleased to announce the 15 recipients of the 2024 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award--the highest U.S. government honor to employers for support of National Guard and Reserve employees.
ANACORTES, Wash. – Emily Schuh, administrative service director, and Jim Lemberg, fiber internet manager, both of the City of Anacortes, were presented with a Patriot Award by John Van Dalen, an ombudsman with the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, in recognition of their extraordinary support of their employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
RICHLAND, Wash. – The COVID-19 pandemic saw National Guards unit mobilized all across the United States to support state and local officials dealing with pandemic.
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – Jennifer Archuleta, behavioral health manager at Peninsula Health Community Services (PHCS), was presented with an Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award, by Jim Miller, awards director for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, in recognition of extraordinary support of her employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
