ESGR in the News

HOPKINS, Minn. – Minnesota Army National Guard 1st Lt. Jesse Simons is presenting the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award to his employment supervisor, Dan Oppedisano with Bedrock Restoration.

This award was presented Aug. 10 at Bedrock Restoration in Hopkins in recognition of the support of his military service. His supervisor supported Simons' unit drill assemblies and annual training deployments and Simon wanted to honor Oppedisano.

Jesse Simons stated, “Dan does an excellent job of leveraging my active service in the Minnesota Army National Guard as an asset and not as liability to the company. He exercises extreme patience with an increase OPTEMPO [operating/operational tempo] and gives me compete freedom to take excess days off after training if I need time to recover after long drill weekends and training events. He asks frequently what else he can do to support my service and how we can make the company more not only veteran friendly, but actively drilling Guard/Reserve friendly as well. Bedrock Restoration is a fantastic civilian partner for our Guard/Reserve components, and I have no doubt it will only get better from here as we continue to grow. Dan Oppedisano would be an excellent case study and partner for Minnesota ESGR small business employers to emulate.

In addition to presenting a Patriot Award, Bedrock Restoration signed an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Statement of Support, confirming that the company joins other employers in pledging:

We fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).

We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.

We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.

We will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families, in peace, in crises and in war.

Assisting the presentation was Tom Haugo an ESGR Minnesota Military Outreach Director and Committee member. ESGR is a Department of Defense office that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers. This year, ESGR celebrates 51 years of excellence in support of the Reserve Components and their civilian employers.
